History of YWCA Bury Netball Club
The Bury Junior Netball Club started in 1989 after the first Greater Manchester Youth Games with the under 11 team who represented Bury at the games.
In 1996 the junior club merged with the senior Bury Club YWCA to form YWCA Bury Netball
The club currently train in 5 sports halls in Bury to accommodate all age groups, the club now has a membership of 200 players, 1 Level 4 coach, 1 Level 3 coach, 8 Level 2 coaches, 5 Level 1 coaches and 10 volunteers as team mangers or on the committee.
The club has the Gold Award in England Netball’s club accreditation scheme.
Over the years the club have won 6 National titles from the Senior National league to National Junior Titles at under 11, 12, 14, 16, & 19 .

Over the years the club have had a number of girls playing in the England U17, 19 and 21 squads, The three latest girls in England Talent squads are Natalie Haythornewaite, Jodie Gibson and Yasmin Ghazizadeh.
Besides producing talented players the real aim of the club is to produce girls who
carry on playing netball well into their adult years in local ladies netball leagues. Of the 10 girls we started the club with in 1989, 19 years later 5 of those girls still play weekly in the Bury Ladies league and there are plenty more ex members playing netball in the Ladies league plus the 7 teams the club has playing in the league.
The clubs latest venture in October was to take three U15/16 teams on tour to Malta for 10 days which was enjoyed by all who attended including the parents who attended the tour
We have also been successful in encouraging our older girls to be come umpires and coaches currently in the U16 age group 4 girls have qualified as C award umpires and one of the original members now a qualified teacher and a Level 2 Netball Coach started coaching the U12 age group last September along with a mum of one of the players she is now a Level 1 coach. This has been the success of the club over the years to recruiting more volunteers as coaches and umpires.
