Bury Law Centre is a local charity providing free legal advice and help to people in Bury. It receives funding from the Legal Services Commission and is regulated by the Law Society.
Helpdesk
Contact for all Law Centre services, information on other advice agencies and listings for local solicitors. Helpdesk is run by reception staff and volunteers during Bury Law Centre opening call in:
Specialist legal services
For people on benefits or a low income and living or working in Bury metropolitan borough. Free independent legal advice, assistance or representation in these areas of law:
- Immigration and asylum
- Housing
- Employment
All new enquiries are dealt with at weekly drop-in advice clinics (no appointment needed):
Housing and employment on Tuesdays 2pm and 4pm
Immigration and asylum on Thursdays between 2pm and 4pm
General legal guidance
Initial guidance on any other area of civil law is available free to anyone at an appointment clinic. The service is run with the help of pro bono, or volunteer, lawyers and is supported by the Big Lottery Fund.
General Legal Guidance clinics currently run:
- at Bury Law Centre every Wednesday between 6p.m. and 8p.m
- at community centres in East Bury once a month (call for details)

Please note: Enquiries that come under criminal or business law will be signposted to appropriate advice agencies by the Helpdesk.
Volunteer services
Bury Law Centre is grateful to the team of local people who offer their time and know-how to support and extend its work. Opportunities currently exist for:

- Pro bono lawyers
