800 Homes without power
Date published: 29/06/2008
400 homes in the centre of Radcliffe and 400 homes in the Chesham Fold area of
Bury are today without power following the theft of two transformers which take
high voltage transmission and turns it into 240v supply for domestic use.
Bury Council's Emergency Planning Team has notified the Primary Care Trust and
Emergency Services and is currently working to identify vulnerable residents
who need to be temporarily rehomed. United Utlities is working hard to replace
the stolen transformers although much damage has been caused in their removal.
Power is not expected to be resumed in the Chesham Fold area until Sunday
evening and power will be resumed on Monday morning to residents living in the
centre of Radcliffe.
A Bury Council spokesperson said:"The best advice we can offer residents
affected is to find alternative accomodation until normal service is resumed.
It is appalling that this shameless act of vandalism has left so many residents
without power for the whole weekend."
