Date published: 29/06/2008
A special constable is in hospital after he was assaulted in Radcliffe last night, Friday 27 June.
The constable and a colleague stopped a group of youths on Peel Street in Radcliffe Town Centre at 8.45pm. The youths then started assaulting the special constable by punching and kicking him.
The officer was taken to hospital suffering head injuries and concussion. He was kept in overnight for observation.
Superintendent Bryan Lawton said: "Special Constables give up their own time to support the police and the communities we serve. This particular officer was doing just that when he was subjected to this terrible attack.
"Thankfully his injuries do not appear to have caused extensive damage but this could have been very different. On behalf of all of his colleagues I would like to wish him a speedy recovery."
Two 17-year-old boys and a 14-year-old boy have been arrested on suspicion of assaulting a police officer. They remain in police custody for questioning.
