Pupils search for inspiring pieces of journalism

Date published: 25/06/2008

As part of the National Year of Reading pupils from Bury schools have been looking for and writing about inspiring pieces of journalism.

The reading challenge, which was launched in April, encourages pupils to take part in a reading related challenge to compete for the chance to win prizes like an iPod Nano or HMV vouchers.

For the last half-term's challenge pupils were asked to find a newspaper article and write about how it has inspired them. Rachel Sawley, from St Monica's RC High School, won first prize for her thoughts on an article about the earthquake in China. Runners up Joseph Lilley, from Radcliffe Riverside High School, and Charlotte Higginson, from Philips High School, wrote about articles to do with triplets and poetry.

The next challenge will see pupils putting pen to paper to find out five interesting facts about the Olympics in China.
