Radcliffe residents no longer subjected to noise nuisance
Date published: 24/06/2008
Residents living at Coronation Walk, Radcliffe will be looking forward to good nights' sleep after noisy neighbour Paul Helliwell was warned by courts to pipe down or get out.
Helliwell was in Bury Magistrates Court on Wednesday 18th June after a number of complaints were made by residents and officers of Six Town Housing.
The main issues were complaints of loud noise by playing loud music inside the property, failing to keep his property in a neat and tidy condition, failing to allow access to inspect the property and had failed to co-operate with other tenants by keeping the communal areas clean, tidy and free from obstruction.
Despite the help of Six Town Housing, which included numerous visits, letters and offers of support, Helliwell failed to amend his behaviour or allow access to his property. As a result, Six Town Housing applied for possession of his property.
At the hearing Mr Helliwell admitted to causing noise nuisance in the form of loud music, failing to allow access to the property and failing to keep his property in a neat and tidy condition.
As a result of the admissions, Mr Hellwell agreed to a Possession Order, which was postponed for a period of 18 months. This means that if similar offences occur during that period, Mr Helliwell could be evicted from their home.
Councillor Dorothy Gunther, Executive Member for Transport and Environment said:" It is such a shame that a minority of people choose to make life so unbearable for people living around them. It is right to be proud of your home and the surrounding area and it is unfair to neighbours to show total disregard for communal areas. I am delighted that Six Town Housing continues to take action against tenants who cannot comply with simple rules."
