Statement on Teachers Strike Planned for April 24th

A leading business group is urging employers to work with staff with school age children ahead of this Thursday’s planned strike by teachers.

Nigel McFarlane, Greater Manchester Chamber’s Local Manager for Bury, said: “The latest figures show that 650 schools across Greater Manchester will be closed or partially closed this Thursday. Many employees will have children at home that day and may struggle to make alternative childcare arrangements.

“There are a number of options available including paid and unpaid leave. In some cases staff may be able to work from home or take time off through their flexitime systems.

“Our main message to business is to not leave it until the day itself but to minimise disruption by planning in advance,” he concluded.
