Read and recommend with new Whitefield reading group

A new reading group for Whitefield has been made possible thanks to a volunteer member from the local community who will organise and run the meetings.

The official launch is at Whitefield Library on Monday 22 May at 7pm and one of their first tasks will be to decide on their regular monthly meeting times.

The launch of the Whitefield group follows the success of a previous volunteer-led group, which is held at Unsworth Library on the third Tuesday of every month between 2 and 3pm and has proved very popular, with more people attending every meeting.

The launch means that there are now groups, most of them led by library staff, at almost every library in the borough. In fact this is Whitefield’s second group; the first, which has been running for a year, is for users of the library’s Visual Impairment Unit who read all their books on tape .

The groups provide the opportunity for people to discuss their favourite books, discover new reading ideas and try out recommendations as well as being a great way to meet other like minded avid readers.

The library provides refreshments for the sessions, which last around an hour, as well as sets of books chosen following suggestions made by group members across the borough.
