New Chair of Whitefield and Unsworth Area Board

Date published: 17/05/2006

Whitefield and Unsworth Area Board are heading back to work after the elections with a few changes. Beverley Sullivan has joined the Area Board as a newly elected councillor for Unsworth ward. Councillor Michelle Wiseman has taken over from Councillor Joan Grimshaw as Chairwoman of the Area Board.

Councillors Ken Audin and Bernie Vincent were re-elected for Besses and Pilkington Park wards.

Councillor Joan Grimshaw chaired the Area Board for a hectic two years and was instrumental in piloting daytime meetings, developing the new Local Community Plan and the progression of the new Morrisons development. She said: "I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my stint as chair. Everyone has worked as a team on the Area Board – a really positive experience and I am sure this will continue in the future".

New Chairwoman Councillor Wiseman said: "I am delighted to have been elected as Area Board Chairperson and am looking forward to my new role. There are very exciting challenges ahead with the rollout of the Area Tasking Team and the implementation of the Local Community Plan. The Area Boards are designed to tackle and respond to community issues and I would encourage residents, community groups and businesses to get involved and help us build on the work already started.   These meetings give local residents an opportunity to come along to air their views and to work with us to resolve the important issues in our area which affect their every day lives".
