Over the past year Bury Art Gallery and Museum has developed a strong partnership with the Adult Learning department which resulted in a grade one award for its arts and crafts curriculum by the Adult Education Inspectorate.
One of the successful elements of the partnership has been a weekly art class set up by Adult Learning and run by a local tutor. The regular Monday and Thursday classes focus on painting, drawing and life drawing.
The classes have been well attended at the gallery and the students have very much enjoyed the experience of creating their own artwork in the inspirational surroundings of the art gallery, benefiting from direct access to the collection.
Just prior to the summertime break up Peter will be taking a one off session on Wed 12 July from 1 - 4pm and answering questions from the newspaper of the Adult Education Inspectorate, Talisman which is designed to promote excellence in adult learning by sharing good practice news and views.
Deputy Leader of the Council Mike Connolly said: "This is just another demonstration of Bury being hailed as a national champion and we are thrilled that our experience and our practices are being shown to other local authorities as a good example."
The art sessions will continue in September after the summer break.
