Its business as usual for Bury Town Centre

Date published: 23/07/2007

The "Bury …so much more’ campaign is promoting Bury town centre throughout an exciting period of change and expansion, which includes redevelopment in and around Bury town centre. Over the next three years (2007–2010), major works will be taking place relating to three development schemes at The Rock, Townside and Chamberhall Business Park.

All town centre shops and businesses in Bury will be open for business as usual throughout the redevelopment, continuing to offer a welcoming shopping environment with a wide range of quality goods and services. A thriving retail centre, Bury offers a great mix of shopping from independents to high street names in addition to the award winning Bury Market in the heart of the town centre. Combined with a wide range of places to eat and drink there really is something for everyone!

With the new developments providing more than 60 new shops, cinema, restaurants, health facilities, offices and environmental improvements, together with new homes and parking, the town centre really will be transformed resulting in a town centre with so much more to experience and enjoy.

Bury Town Centre Partnership
Bury Town Centre Partnership is a partnership which has been established to help promote and sustain the vitality, viability and long term economic prosperity of Bury town centre. The Partnership is made up of the business community (with day and night time economy representatives), Bury Council and other key agencies, including the police, whose activities impact on the town centre. The appointment of a Town Centre Manager this summer will be a further important step towards the future development and growth of the partnership. The Town Centre Manager will expand the work of the partnership to promote and improve the town centre.

Cllr Dorothy Gunther the Council’s Executive Member for Transport said:

"The Town Centre Partnership is helping to forge better and improved links between the Council and the business community in Bury.

With the recently announced progress and expansion of the Rock development scheme, together with the proposals at Townside and Chamber Hall Business Park, we are aiming to achieve maximum benefit from this high level of investment and development planner in and around the town centre over the next few years, to improve Bury as a place to shop, work or visit. As part of this we are committed to supporting all of our town centre businesses throughout this exciting period of expansion wherever possible, through the Town Centre Partnership and the Town Centre Forum meeting to which all town centre businesses are invited."

The Rock
Work has now started on a development that, over the next 3 years, will create an extension to Bury's shopping centre. The scheme, by Thornfield Properties, is located at the end of the Rock opposite Wilkinsons and will stretch upto Moorgate Retail Park.

Townside
ASK Developments are partnering Bury Council in an exciting new joint venture company (Askbury Developments) designed to generate multi-million pound mixed use investment, located opposite the Townhall and Bury Interchange.

Chamberhall Business Park
The new name for Bury Ground, this development consists 500,000 square feet of office space, a hotel and leisure facilities, situated in an attractive setting and close to public transport.
