Scrumptious Bury businesses achieve success in Food Awards

Two Bury businesses won last night at the Manchester Food and Drink Festival Awards 2007 which took place at a Gala dinner in Manchester Town Hall.
Chris Johnson, and Ros Hunter co-owners of Ramsons, which describes itself as an Anglo Italian eating place and is based in Ramsbottom received an Outstanding Contribution of the Decade Award
The award endorses Ramsons philosophy since to serve real food prepared in the restaurant from natural, seasonal and traceable ingredients."
Chris was delighted and said; "I was absolutely gob-smacked when they announced the award. When we decided to go organic back in 1985 we were regarded as somewhat eccentric. The recent announcement that UK organic food sales have topped £2 billion suggests that perhaps we were a little ahead of our time with our concern for healthy eating and the environment.
Slattery’s which is renowned for its delicious cakes, handmade chocolates and fine dining was awarded the title of Coffee Bar and Casual Dining Venue of the year. Slattery’s has not moved far since it planted its roots in Bury in 1991. Located on Bury New Road in Whitefield the patisserie attracts people from around the country and is always full to the brim of diners and shoppers who have heard of its reputation.
John Slattery said "We are absolutely delighted to have won this award it’s a wonderful accolade for us and a great boost for morale to all members of our team." Slattery’s has previously won Coffee Shop of the Year in 2004 and has also won wedding cake design of the year run by national consumer magazine Wedding Ideas.
Jill Youlton, from Bury "s Tourism Unit , organiser of the Bury Food and Drink Festival- a spin off of the Manchester Food and Drink Festival. said " These awards show that as Manchester’s reputation for good food and drink grows, Bury is firmly on the map. "
