Judging looms for Bury's blooms
Date published: 02/07/2008
Bury Council is urging residents and businesses to do everything they can to
help Bury grow yet another winning entry in this year's regional North West in
Bloom contest.
Our town needs to be at its very best on Thursday 17 July when judges from
North West in Bloom will be taken on a swift three-hour tour of Bury town
centre and the surrounding areas to look at the best floral displays, permanent
landscaping, examples of conservation, environmental projects and community
involvement.
Bury has done extremely well to repeat victory in the regional contest for four
years running. To make this five years in a row, exceptional standards in all
the sections being judged, will need to be exhibited.
Councillor Dorothy Gunther, Executive Member for Environment and Transport
said "When the judges return to Bury they want us to show them even more
evidence of community involvement in a practical way and we particularly want
to encourage local people to impress the judges with the quality of their front
gardens."
Neil Long, Assistant Director (Leisure Services) said "Amongst other key areas
around Bury town centre, the judges will be visiting Openshaw Park, Greenhill
County Primary School, Whitehead Park and Burrs Country Park. If your home is
in the vicinity of any of these locations and you and your neighbours have
gardens you would like to show the judges, then the Bury in Bloom Team want to
hear from you."
In addition, Bury's residents, along with pubs, clubs, restaurants, shops,
retail parks and business premises are encouraged to make Bury a better place
by making sure their gardens and property are tidy and litter free.
To nominate your front garden for inspection contact Pat Kelly, Bury in Bloom
Co-ordinator on 0161 253 5266.
To report public areas that are unclean, where there is litter or graffiti or
if public property has been vandalised phone the Customer Contact Team on 0161
