Linda wins Family Learner of the year 2008
Date published: 01/07/2008
A local Mum from Whitefield is celebrating after being awarded Family Learner
of the Year 2008 for improved literacy and numeracy skills - so much so she is
now off to study at university.
Linda Edyvean joined the family learning scheme in 2006 as she wanted to
improve her literacy and numeracy skills. She really enjoyed studying for the
qualification as family learning courses are designed to allow parent and child
to learn side by side. Linda felt that the course allowed her to enjoy quality
time with her son whilst they both learnt new skills.
Linda also took part in an Access to Higher Education course run by Bury
College and has recently been told that she has a place on a Social Care Degree
course at Salford University.
Linda said; "This is something I always felt drawn to but never thought that I
would actually be able to do. Achieving what I have through Family Learning
has given me the confidence to reach higher".
Family Learning is one of the free schemes run by Bury Libraries and Adult
Learning Services at a variety of venues across the borough. If you would like
to take part in a family learning course please contact 0161 253 5766.
