Bury Residents warned about Bogus doorstep salesmen
Date published: 01/07/2008
Trading Standards are warning residents in Bury to be aware of bogus door step
salesmen claiming to be from the council's Trading Standards Department.
Trading Standards received a report yesterday morning that a man wearing a pin
stripe suit was knocking on doors and talking to residents about changes in
trading standards legislation. The man then went on to ask that residents
provide personal information to be included on a database, which is being built
to prevent further cold calling at the door or on the phone.
Under no circumstances do Trading Standards officers or representatives from
the Office of Fair Trading make door to door calls to gather information.
Trading Standards are advising local residents not to give personal information
to any door to door salesman.
If you are concerned that you may have been the victim of this bogus caller
please contact the Trading Standards team on 0161 253 5353.
