Mums put 'breast' foot forward...

Date published: 01/07/2008

Eight local Bury mums will graduate in a special ceremony this week having
completed a twelve week course on the importance of breastfeeding.

Hoyle Nursery School and Children's Centre staff have teamed up with Bury
Children's Centres Midwife Val Rimmer to run the La Leche League Peer Support
Programme.

To be a Peer Supporter you must be enthusiastic about breastfeeding, have
breastfeeding experience and have a desire to help other mothers from the
community.

The training has provided information about the importance of breastfeeding
newborn babies and about the problems which may be experienced. It provides
practical tips, advice and support from qualified La Leche League Leaders.

Children's centre staff have encouraged the qualified mums to set up their own
Peer Support Group to provide further help and advice to others.

Theresa Claire remarked how much she had learnt over the course: "I think the
importance of breast feeding is widely known but until I completed this course
I never fully appreciated why it was so important. I will definitely be passing
on the information I have learnt to other new mums."

If you would like further information about how you can take part in the
scheme, please contact Shelley Crump or Becky Williams on 0161 761 6822
