The annual Bury Sports Awards were held at the Elizabethan Suite on Friday 8 February with over 140 people gathering to celebrate the successes and achievements of coaches, volunteers, clubs, teams and individual sports people.
Prior to the presentation of the awards, vocalist and tribute artist Ray Godwin provided superb live entertainment and veteran athlete Marie Caldwell pleased the crowd as guest speaker.
Sylvia Davenport from Bury Sports Advisory Service hosted the event and trophies were presented to winners by The Worshipful the Mayor, Councillor Farook Chaudhry. All nominees received a plaque presented by Marie Caldwell.
,Bury Council’s executive member for Health and Wellbeing, Councillor Beverly Sullivan said; "On behalf of the organising committee I would like to congratulate all the nominees for their contribution to sport throughout 2007, as well as say a special thank you to all the sponsors of the evening including; Groundwork Bury, Northern Institute of Massage, Bury and District Rounders League, The Rotary Club of Radcliffe and Ainsworth Road Garage.

Bury Gymnastics Club
Nicole Short, Zoe Robinson, Black Lane Bowling Club, Barbara Glover, Vivien Makin and Matthew Metcalfe will all go on to represent Bury at the Greater Manchester Sports Awards at the City of Manchester Stadium on Friday 11 April.
Following the presentations, a charity raffle raised £65 for Macmillan cancer support and £65 for Bury Heart Foundation.
