Date published: 02/09/2009
A 50-year-old man who abused two girls he babysat 30 years ago has today, Wednesday 2 September 2009, been jailed at Bolton Crown Court.
Andrew Rostron, (30/06/59), of Weythorne Drive, Astley Bridge, Bolton, was convicted of two counts of sexual abuse and eight counts of indecent assault and indecency with a child on two girls, who were just six and four when the abuse began. He was also convicted of raping the older girl.
He was sentenced to four years in prison and ordered to sign the sex offender's register.
Rostron sexually abused two girls from about 1976 for several years.
He regularly babysat the two children and repeatedly subjected them to sexual assaults and raped one of them.
Detective Constable Randolph Lyle, from Astley Bridge CID, said: "These girls have spent more than 30 years living with the most horrific ghosts of their past.
"It has taken immense courage for them to come forward and report what happened to them, but I am delighted Rostron has been convicted and will now serve his time in prison.
"His crimes are among the most appalling I have ever investigated and I hope that today's result can help both women try and put their heinous experiences behind them."
