Ramsbottom residents encouraged to make a healthy new year’s resolution

Date published: 09/01/2009

A Health Fayre will take place at Ramsbottom Civic Hall on 19 January 2009. The event will run in two sessions, between 2pm and 4pm and then 6pm to 8pm.

The event is aimed at promoting good health amongst Ramsbottom residents. The New Year often brings with many new resolutions to get fit and active and both NHS Bury and Bury Council, who have organised the event, hope that the information available at the fayre will make these resolutions become reality.

There will be information and experts on hand from organisations such as the Stop Smoking Service, Health Trainers, Earlybreak, Leisure Services and the Health Kick team to provide useful hints and tips to local residents about how to make that positive lifestyle change that could really make a big difference to an individual’s health.

Alongside the health stalls their will also be advice from the Affordable Warmth Team about staying warm this winter, BADDAC and representatives from the Child Care and Extended Services Team.

The Ramsbottom Policing Team will also be holding a surgery at the event, and will be on hand to speak to people about any local crime concerns that they may have. PC Kevin Day said: “People are often asked about their perceptions of crime, and the fear of crime is often greater than the reality. This can have a bearing on health and therefore it is appropriate that we are on hand to hold a surgery at this event".

Councillor Yvonne Wright, Chair of Ramsbottom, Tottington and North Manor Local Area Partnership, said: “The Local Area Partnership has helped fund this event through the Communities for Health fund. I hope that local residents will be able to get some really simple, but expert advice about how the small changes to their current lifestyle can help make them much healthier”.

Natalie Moran, Assistant Director of Public Health added;
“Our event aims to promote health and wellbeing in the north of the borough. Small changes to the way we live our lives can make a big difference to our health, adding life to years and years to life. That’s what this event is all about. We want to encourage local people to hear about the services available to them, and support them to make a change for life.”
