Have your say on polling day

Date published: 01/02/2010

Although the General Election has yet to be called, council officials in Bury are already working hard to make sure that all eligible residents can have their say on polling day.

Electoral staff will be sending forms to households in Bury throughout February to remind people to check that they are registered to vote in this year’s elections.

By checking the form Bury’s voters will be making sure they will be able to have their say on what matters to them.

A General Election must be held by June, and there are also local elections for Bury Council on May 6.

Mark Sanders, electoral registration officer for Bury, said: “All you have to do is check the form that will be coming through your letter box over the coming month, and you’ll be able to help choose the people that make the decisions which affect your everyday life.

“For some people, this may be the first General Election that they get to take part in and they may be worried about what to do. You can find out more by calling 0161 253 5114/5224 or go to www.aboutmyvote.co.uk.

“If you’re not registered to vote, then you can’t make a decision about who represents you in Westminster and Bury. Secure your voice on the issues that matter to you now: it only takes a few minutes.”
