Nuisance tenant evicted

Date published: 28/01/2010

A tenant of Six Town Housing has been evicted for causing continued nuisance and refusing to allow workmen into her home.

Julie Hamilton, of Ivy Road, Bury, had had numerous visits, letters, phone calls and offers of support from Six Town.

The main issue was failing to allow access to inspect the property and carry out essential repairs. She also made offensive comments, excessive telephone calls and texts, and used foul language towards Bury Council and STH contractors and staff.

An 18-month injunction order was granted against Hamilton on September 25, 2009, stating she was not to cause nuisance to Bury Council, Six Town or their contractors, nor encourage others to do so.

However, Hamilton continued to cause a nuisance and to refuse access. Six Town went back to court on December 21 and secured a possession order, giving Hamilton 14 days to leave the property. Six Town subsequently executed an eviction warrant on January 20.
