Spruced Goose puts the innocence back into children’s designer fashions

Date published: 09/02/2010

Whitefield-based children’s fashion boutique Spruced Goose is making a mark by offering innocent and distinctive fashions for 0-14 year olds exclusively from the US and Europe as an alternative to ‘mini me’ adult look-a-like children’s fashions often available on the high-street.

Founded by Petra Schiffer, the Whitefield boutique and online store features hard-to-find brands such as Agatha Ruiz de la Prada, Bengh per Principesse, Eliane et Lena, ILoveGorgeous, Imps & Elfs, Nolita Pocket, Rare the Kid, Scotch and Soda and the unique Oopsy Daisy Baby pettiskirts from the US.

Says Petra: “Our product range allows children to express their personalities without looking like mini adults. Children should dress as children, with fun, colourful clothes that capture the innocence and vibrancy of childhood.”

“When I had my children I found it really difficult to find different, individual clothing because even the independent children’s clothing stores were offering much of the same brands. Being German and being used to having more independent retailers rather than high street chains with a bigger variety of products, was my real inspiration behind Spruced Goose. Our product range allows children to express their personalities without looking like mini adults. Children should dress as children, with fun, colourful clothes that capture the innocence and vibrancy of childhood.”

The business was established in August 2007 and in September 2008 Spruced Goose went online. With a widespread UK customer base, Spruced Goose also attracts worldwide customers, drawn by the boutique’s unique selection of key pieces from exclusive and emerging children’s fashion designers. A big part of the business is gift buying for new babies, Birthdays, Christmas etc. For ease and convenience the boutique offers free gift wrapping, gift vouchers and worldwide shipping to customers that buy in the shop or online.

Located just 2 Minutes from Junction 17, M60, the location was chosen because of its proximity to the Centre of Manchester and Bury and the M60. It’s convenient and easy to find for customers coming from the North and South and Whitefield has a lot of redevelopment going on, making it a destination worth visiting.”

Spruced Goose along with Harvey Nichols in London is the only UK outlet for an exclusive girls’ occasion wear collection called Dino e Lucia – recently worn by President Obama’s daughters. The French designer has boutiques in Paris and St. Tropez and was founded by the daughter of a designer at Balenciaga (the high-end handbag brand).
