Someone Who'll Watch Over Me

Print this Event

Summerseat Players present "Someone Who'll Watch Over Me" by Frank McGuinness.

When this play originally premiered at Hampstead Theatre in 1992, it was just months after the release of British journalist John McCarthy and Irish teacher Brian Keenan, who had been held hostage together for several years by the Islamic Jihad.
But although playwright Frank McGuinness spoke to Keenan after his release, he hasn’t provided a documentary account of their internment but offers instead a powerfully imagined dramatic portrait of the strategies of human survival and resilience that three men cast in a similar situation might employ.
It is alternately tense and tender study of an American doctor, an Irish journalist and an English university lecturer who are being held hostage in the Lebanon.

Directed by Garyk Barnett
